Theodore Roosevelt

October 27, 1858-January 6, 1919

Theodore Roosevelt served as the 26th president of the USA from 1901-1909.  He was a republican that became a driving force in the anti-trust policy.  These laws protected consumers and provided an equal playing field for small businesses.

"Antitrust laws are applied to a wide range of questionable business activities, including but not limited to market allocation, bid-rigging, price-fixing, and monopolies. Below, we take a look at the activities these laws protect against."

He also supported the progressive era. Activism and fighting against internal corruption was a part of his platform. This progressive stance also meant he supports the right for women to vote.

Roosevelt was a conservationist.  He worked hard on protecting the land and the animals on the land. He proclaimed  18 new U.S. national monuments, 51 bird reserves, 4 game preserves, and 150 national forests.

Have you hugged your teddy bear today? Did you know that the teddy bear got its name from Theodore   Roosevelt?  Mr. President went on a hunting trip in which he did not catch a bear.  One of the men he was with cornered and tied a bear to a tree for him to shoot.  He did not feel that this was right.  He refused to shoot the bear. Permission was granted to allow usage of his name to make the toy.

Science:
Draw a picture of a bear on a piece of paper and cut it out. Fold it once vertically and once horizontally.  Fill a pie tin with water and gently place the folded bear on the surface of the water.

Observation questions:
What happened to the bear?  Did it wake from hibernation? What is hibernation? Did you use hot water or cold water?

Supplies:
White tagboard
scissors
bubble wrap
brown paint
paintbrushes
wiggle eyes
pompoms, buttons, scraps of fabric
markers
glue

Cut teddy bear shapes out of the tagboard, tape bubble wrap to the table. Paint the bubble wrap brown and press it to the bear shape. After the bear dries use the other supplies to decorate.
