School

I haven't talked much about what it's been like for my family and I.  My days are not really easy.  I wake at 5:00 am or 6:00 am. I try to eat before I start working with my youngest.  I need to meditate and be calm inside because of all that is going on.

My day goes from early to 2:00-4:00 pm. My kid is dyslexic. I am relearning a lot of concepts that I had forgotten long ago. I decided to show you what I'm learning or I started to remember.

This is the math problem to solve.  Firstly, any number times itself is that number.  1x211=211 24x1=24 we know right off our answer will be 5 1/4 because it's multiplied by 1.

We do want to change the form of the number though. We take the whole number, 5 and multiply the denominator which is the bottom number and you get 20. You then take that 20 and add the numerator.  20 you get 21.  We call 4 the keeper number.  so it looks like 21/4.
Fractions are always division problems. 4 goes into 21 5 times. 5x4=20.  21-21=1 so 1 is your remainder. 5 is your whole number the 1 goes on top as your numerator and four as your denominator. 5 1/4  is the answer which is the same as 21/4
Writing/ Free write:

I love to write! What I am doing today with this blog post is called a free write.  What a free write is, is getting all your thoughts and just writing it out without much rhyme or reason.  I've been writing so long that I punctuate my work during this process. When you free write, you do not have to punctuate. This is a prewriting exercise and even spelling gets thrown out during this type of writing. I suggest getting a notebook to write in for journaling.

Journal Topics:

  • A walk in the forest
  • A talk with an alien
  • A talking banana
  • My best friend
  • My favorite thing to do
  • My role model
  • What my neighborhood is like
  • Things I miss
  • Things I wish
  • My best birthday
Books to read:
The Punctuation Station by Brian P. Cleary
Math Curse by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith

Meditation:

    1. Sit in a quiet room.
    2. Cross your legs, criss-cross apple sauce.
    3. Take a deep breath through your nose.
    4. Close your eyes.
    5. Take a deep breath through the nose and out through the mouth, while your eyes are closed.
    6.  Visualize a circle from nose to mouth as you do this.
    7. When you feel in your zen, open your eyes and get your day going.
    Science:
    Supplies:
    • seeds
    • strips of paper
    • school glue
    • hand shovel
    Instructions:
    1. Cut your paper into one-inch strips
    2. Measure and mark every six inches
    3. At every six inches, glue a seed onto the paper at your marking points
    4. Let it dry overnight
    5. With your hand shovel dig 1/2' into dirt
    6. Place your seed strips in the dirt and cover.
    7. Water when finished
    Observe:
    • What was the temperature like outside when it was planted?
    • How many days until sprouting?
    • What do you think will happen?
